Domestic & Sexual Violence Hotline Internships:
Our 24-hour statewide domestic & sexual violence hotline provides crisis intervention, counseling, technical assistance, referrals, and information for approximately 20,000 victims of domestic & sexual violence a year. All interns will be trained to respond to Hotline calls. Hotline interns will have the opportunity to conduct research for our resource database, assist with preparing monthly and quarterly reports, and be part of our new project to develop an enhanced intake database that would streamline statewide hotline activities. Interns will also have the opportunity to attend numerous informative trainings and workshops organized by the Coalition and other regional organizations.

Public Policy Internships:
NYSCADV plays an integral role in effecting social change to eliminate domestic violence through legislation and public policy work. The Public Policy Team is particularly active when the state legislature is in session, including the planning and implementation of the Annual Legislative Awareness Day. Activities of an intern may include: participating in promoting legislation at the state and national level, working with the court system to improve civil and criminal court responses to domestic violence, collaborating with multiple stakeholder systems and organizations in policy and protocol development, and strategizing for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence at the state and national level. Other activities may include research and development of position papers, legislative memoranda and resource/educational materials, planning and organization of policy meetings, trainings, workgroups, roundtables, etc., and creation and updating of policy materials and resources for distribution and posting.

Criminal Justice Internships:
Interns may be involved in conducting research and producing reports that support the development of New York State Model Policies for Domestic Violence, technical assistance packages related to child custody investigation and family court intake guidelines, coordinating and organizing trainings, and participating in meetings, workgroups, and/or trainings related to the Criminal Justice Project. This represents an exciting opportunity to be involved in a nationally recognized project on the forefront of offender accountability practices.

Training Internships:
NYSCADV conducts eight major trainings every year for local domestic violence program advocates from around the state on contemporary topics of interest and need. Recent trainings include topics such as criminal justice, child welfare, offender accountability, and the intersection of oppressions, among others. Training topics for 2007 included economic justice and tech safety. Interns will have the opportunity to help develop curricula and organize the trainings. Tasks will range from conducting research on relevant topics, developing surveys and questionnaires to assess agency needs, developing curricula and other training related materials, creating and maintaining a database to track trainers and other contacts, and assisting with overall organization and coordination of trainings.

Technology Management Internships:
NYSCADV is committed to staying current with technologies and improving and expanding its current infrastructure. The advancement of these technologies will strengthen and expand our ability to provide support services, resources, and materials. Intern tasks may include: website maintenance and updates, database development, listserv moderation, technology grant research, and research and dissemination of technology safety materials and upgrades. In addition, interns may be involved in basic network maintenance, assistance with hardware troubleshooting, technical writing, and general assistance to the system administrator.

Administrative Internships:
The administrative staff at NYSCADV provides vital background support and assistance to all the various projects, programs, and activities of our agency. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to be involved in any component(s) of the other projects mentioned above depending on individual interest and skills.

Development Internship:
Work with the development team to conduct research, submit applications and work towards raising funds and community awareness that result in enhanced opportunities for our membership.

Ad Hoc Projects Volunteers:
NYSCADV is seeking volunteers with target areas of expertise for various one-time projects such as: Branding development, Graphics design, Dynamic Website Design with content management (such as PHP and MYSQL) and Library Sciences/Resource development.
