Systems and Policy Specialist

The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) is a statewide advocacy organization committed to the goal of providing services to women who are abused and their children and eradicating domestic abuse and promoting broad social change through advocacy, education, public awareness and program development.

NYSCADV is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Systems and Policy Specialist.

Primary Responsibility:

The Systems and Policy Specialist is the primary liaison for criminal and civil justice policy and training projects and shares responsibility for the implementation of NYSCADV's public policy strategy.

Duties:

The Systems and Policy Specialist will:

Liaise with domestic violence programs, county and state agencies, and national organizations regarding criminal and civil justice; attend regular and ad hoc policy meetings with members and systems; and, implement statewide projects designed to improve the criminal and civil justice response to domestic violence;

Provide technical assistance to local, state, and national representatives, including criminal and civil justice systems, state agencies, domestic violence programs and organizations, and other relevant stakeholders;

Present at local, state and national conferences on topics pertaining to policy and criminal and civil justice, and develop curriculum and training and educational materials to improve criminal and civil justice response to domestic violence;

Coordinate internal policy and justice systems materials and processes, including creating and updating policy and justice systems material for the NYSCADV website, writing policy and justice systems articles and updates for NYSCADV publications; and supervise policy and justice systems interns and volunteers;

Share responsibility with the NYSCADV Policy Team for the development of NYSCADV's policy agenda and its implementation, through research and evaluation, materials development, and lobbying, and assisting with the planning, implementation and follow up of all special NYSCADV policy meetings, trainings, work groups, roundtables, etc.;

Research and develop position papers, policy documents and resource/educational materials;

Fulfill all requirements associated with the Grants to Encourage Arrest Policies contract, and prepare all additionally required NYSCADV reports;

Assist with existing NYSCADV projects and programs;

Travel necessary, reliable transportation required.


Qualifications:

NYSCADV seeks a highly organized and experienced professional who has experience in a domestic violence and/or sexual assault services program, or working on related policy issues is strongly recommended, but prior experience with Women's Movement and/or feminist issues will be considered. The position requires strong public speaking, written and oral communication skills, computer and database skills, as well as detail oriented and organized, demonstrated team-building and problem-solving expertise. The position requires a commitment to: NYSCADV's Mission Statement and Principles of Practice; and social justice, anti-oppression and non-violence.

Communication - Inspires others to invest resources in establishing and maintaining best practices, ensures the flow of information within NYSCADV and to our community partners, creates an atmosphere of trust, openness and inclusivity, treats others in a fair and ethical manner, and is an expert listener, communicator, and facilitator, and demonstrates strong written skills;

Director of Finance

Primary Responsibilities include:

Internal accounting controls;

Preparation of monthly financial statements;

Payroll;

Tax reports;

Federal and state grant reports;

A/P & A/R invoicing;

Facilitation of annual audit preparation;

Preparation and monitoring of program budgets;

Implementation of subcontracts;


Qualifications:

NYSCADV seeks a highly organized and experienced professional with Bachelors degree in Accounting (or related field), bookkeeping/accounting experience, knowledge & experience in QuickBooks and Excel. Preferred experience with nonprofits and federal and state grants management.

Resource Specialist

The New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NYSCADV) is a statewide advocacy organization committed to the goal of providing services to battered women and their children and eradicating domestic abuse through advocacy, education, public awareness and program development.

NYSCADV is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Resource Specialist.

Primary Responsibility:

The Resource Specialist is co-responsible for all activities associated with the Resource & Education Development Project and implementing ad hoc Coalition projects.

Duties:

The Resource Specialist will:

Research, develop and maintain resource materials for distribution and use at the Coalition;

Conduct ongoing research of current statistics, studies and articles;

Fulfillment of all material requests;

Review existing NYSCADV position papers and conduct research and make revisions;

Identify current and future position paper needs and develop in consultation with others;

Coordinate collection of current NYSCADV positions on topics not covered in existing position papers;

Help maintain a package of materials outlining NYSCADV positions;

General data collection and research;

Provide coverage for the hotline, enter intakes from hotline calls into database, and attend regular hotline meetings;

Assist with grants, reports and data collection for hotline contracts;

Provide technical assistance to hotline callers and for other organization requests;

Assist with maintenance, revision and distribution of NYSCADV Directory of Services and Handbook;

Assist with management of directory database;

Help with recruitment and coordination of volunteers and interns;

Solicit intern/volunteer needs from other staff and identify appropriate placements;

Implement ad hoc NYSCADV projects, and assist with existing NYSCADV projects and programs.


Qualifications:

Prior experience working in a domestic violence program or working on domestic violence policy issues is strongly recommended, but prior experience with Women's Movement and/or feminist issues will be considered.

Experience with outreach, hotline, or empowerment support work is required. Strong computer and database skills (MS Access +), and strong written/verbal skills are also required.

Must be detail oriented. Writing experience is a plus.
