Deputy Director, Residential Services

Administers all facets of the transitional shelter, including operations, programs, human resources, purchasing and community relations. Ensures professional and expeditious provision of social services for the women and their children who reside in the transitional and the crisis shelters and for those who participate in the shelters’ Aftercare program. Serves as member of the Senior Management team, advising and assisting in the development and implementation of policies, programs and strategic priorities for the agency. Plays a lead role in developing agency advocacy positions, and serves as member of the steering committee of the New York City Coalition of Domestic Violence Residential Providers.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates transitional and crisis shelter program goals and outcomes to ensure appropriate high quality services and compliance with funding mandates and goals.
  • Designs and implements new program initiatives at the transitional shelter and in conjunction with the Director of Crisis Shelters at the crisis shelters.
  • Manages staff recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation to ensure appropriate staffing levels and the professional delivery of services.
  • Manages SBH shelter’s relations with government regulatory agencies, funders and local community agencies.
  • Ensures establishment and maintenance of collaborative working relationships with local police precincts.
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to direct reports.
  • Develops and manages program budget to ensure maximum utilization of financial resources and adherence to revenue and expense guidelines and constraints.
  • Ensures facilities are well maintained and safe on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provides regular program and statistical reports on Shelter operations and programs to Executive Director. 
  • Represents agency advocacy positions on various city-wide committees, including the NYC Coalition of Domestic Violence Residential Providers
  • On-call 24/7.
  • Performs any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • LMSW or related degree.
  • Eight years of progressive responsibility in staff supervision and program management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Residential services experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple-sites a plus
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Well-organized.
  • Ability to be calm in a crisis situation.
  • Creative problem solving skills
  • Understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to working to end domestic violence and gender-based violence.

Senior Children's Activity Leader

OVERVIEW:

The Senior Children’s Activity Leader oversees the day to day operations of the Children’s and Teen's Rooms, including all Childcare and Play Activity Group components of the Children and Youth Services Program in Sanctuary for Families Main Office. S/he provides assistance to agency’s staff and clients and performs administrative duties as needed. S/he will be required to work late two nights a week and maintain a flexible work schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides childcare during caretaker’s individual appointments, groups and/or other agency   programming.
  • Responsible for coordination and direct provision of childcare during agency programming, including, but not limited to EEP workshops, Legal workshops, After-School Program, and Clinical groups.
  • Provides assistance to staff and clients regarding child development, children’s educational issues, children’s summer programming and other child-related issues.
  • Conducts OVS screenings with clients and files OVS applications.
  • Conducts Parenting Education sessions with clients.
  • Provides case management on specific cases, as needed.
  • Coordinates the childcare calendar of coverage.
  • Coordinates scheduling of Children and Youth Services Program volunteers with designated Development Department staff.
  • Provides support and task supervision to and acts as staff contact for Art Therapy Interns.
  • Assists with coverage in the After-School Teen Program as needed.
  • Participates in regular supervision with the Senior Supervising Social Worker to review program operations, issues/concerns, etc.
  • Participates in program and departmental meetings, in-service training and staff development activities.
  • Coordinates designated aspects of events, trips and outings in conjunction with
  • Development Department staff, including but not limited to the Horace Mann Party, Back to School Bash and Backpack Distribution.
  • Performs any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor.

ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Supervised by the Senior Supervising Social Worker.
  • Collaborates with Consulting Art Therapist.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS in Human Services or related field required.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.
  • Knowledge about DV a plus.
  • Knowledge of Child Development required.
  • Knowledge about Parenting Education required.
  • Experience working with homeless populations a plus.
  • Minimum of one year supervisory experience required.
  • Ability and willingness to work late two nights a week required.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule required.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
