X-WR-CALDESC:For most of us\, information technology is a central part of n
ot only our day-to-day professional affairs\, but our personal lives as we
ll. An unfortunate side effect is that perpetrators of physical\, emotiona
l\, and sexual abuse have turned to technology as yet another vehicle to p
rey on victims. But technology can also serve as a valuable resource for v
ictims to maintain their contacts and seek help. Advocates who serve victi
ms directly can empower them by providing accurate\, user-friendly informa
tion about how they can use technology to protect themselves. In addition\
, technology can make it easier for advocates to secure the identity and p
rivacy of victims with whom they come into contact. NYSCADV has developed
this training to reach a broad audience.\n\nRegardless of their technologi
cal proficiency\, participants in this training will come away with an inc
reased understanding of trauma-informed\, survivor-centered services in th
e digital world. We will cover:\nHow victims can use technology to stay sa
fe\;\nHow abusers misuse technology to stalk\, harass\, and threaten victi
ms\;\nStrategies to safety plan with victims and preserve evidence for pot
ential investigations\;\nThe development and implementation of agency-leve
l policies and practices that foster a confidential\, safe space for survi
vors.\n\nObjectives:\nIncrease overall understanding of technology safety
issues\nIdentify best practices for agencies to maintain a confidential an
d safe space for victims\nProvide safety planning techniques for advocates
working with victims\nProvide an overview of tools victims can use to pro
tect themselves\n\nWho benefits from the workshop:\nNYSCADV’s materials wi
ll benefit service providers directly and will also benefit the victims th
ey serve. Providers will be able to identify areas that need improvement i
n their own technology practices and protocol and how to address it. Advoc
ates will be prepared to assist victims in confronting and preventing tech
nological abuse.\n\nWho Should Attend:\nRegistration is limited to staff o
f NYSCADV Program and Allied Member Organizations Only.\n\nContent warning
\nThis workshop will refer to popular social-media platforms by name and d
