X-WR-CALDESC:For over 20 years\, Motivational Interviewing (MI) has been re
cognized as an evidenced-based practice that supports both engagement and
change. MI is a “way of being with others” that can strengthen relationshi
ps and open the door to personal growth. MI is collaborative and compassio
nate\, while recognizing and honoring the autonomy of each individual. \n
\nIn the recently released book\, “Compassionomics”\, the authors provide
scientific evidence that caring (compassion) makes a difference in outcome
s of the people we serve\, in the costs of care\, and as an antidote to cl
inician burnout. When the spirit and skills of MI are fully embraced\, saf
ety and trust is supported. The person we are supporting and guiding is vi
ewed as the expert about themselves and it is the clinician’s responsibili
ty to evoke and listen deeply to the ideas and beliefs of that person\; it
is that person’s perspective and values that will support the change that
is being sought. \n\nDuring this training we will explore the relationsh
ip between Trauma- Responsive Care (TRC)\, Motivational Interviewing skill
s/interventions and how compassion/caring supports a safe and trusting env
ironment. At a deeper level\, we will look at how the “way of being” of MI
engages others and helps to guide them towards the changes/goals they are
seeking. \n\nTopics Covered: What is Motivational Interviewing\; What is
 Trauma Responsive Care\; Compassion\; Guiding Style\; Righting Reflex\; Th
