X-WR-CALDESC:Join NYSCADV for 2023 Budget Advocacy Day\, February 14\, in A
lbany This year\, we invite you to join us back at the Capitol for the 202
3 Budget Advocacy Day at the Capitol in Albany on Tuesday\, February 14. A
s you may know\, Governor Hochul proposed several initiatives that could i
mpact domestic violence survivors and their families. Top of the list is a
proposal to revamp the State’s Domestic Violence Model Policy\, which was
initially drafted in 1998\, and a commitment to update corresponding poli
cies for providing social services and screening potential survivors. NYSC
ADV is hopeful that more information about this\, and other DV-related mea
sures\, will be contained in the Governor’s Executive Budget\, which shoul
d be issued by the end of the month.\n\nIt’s critical that we advocate for
initiatives that will truly help DV survivors and their families\, withou
t causing unintended consequences. This year’s in person activities presen
t the perfect opportunity to meet with legislators to communicate our NYS
budget priorities\, the impact of funding cuts on DV services\, and the ch
allenges in recruiting and retaining staff. For those planning to meet wit
h legislators\, either in person in Albany or remotely\, we recommend cont
acting legislators’ offices now to begin scheduling appointments. If you h
ave a question on scheduling meetings with legislators\, please reach out
to Brittni Gulotty\, Public Policy Coordinator\, by e-mail at bgulotty@nys
cadv.org or by phone at 518-764-2541. \n\nFor those unable to participate
in meetings\, we will be developing a social media toolkit which will enab
le advocates to support the day’s events on Facebook\, Twitter\, Instagram
and other platforms. Once available\, please share these materials widely
. \n\nWho Should Attend: Executive\, Program Directors & other appropriate
staff of NYSCADV member programs. \n\nFood: Food and drink will NOT be pr
ovided during this event. Please tend to your food and drink needs before
you arrive. \n\nPREPARING FOR LEGISLATIVE MEETINGS\n\nNYSCADV will host an
informational webinar on Monday\, Feb. 3\, from 3:00-4:00pm that will pro
vide lobbying tips and describe the legislation to help you prepare for yo
