National Center for Victims of Crime: Trauma-Informed Responses to Victims of Financial Fraud and Exploitation

Tuesday, November 17, 2020
1:30 pm2:30 pm

A key tenant of a victim-centered response is being trauma-informed when assisting all victims. Financial fraud and exploitation are often viewed as less serious offenses, but they can be very devastating – victims usually feel shame and guilt. And when exploitation is committed by someone that the victims knows and trusts, like a caregiver, many aspects of the victim’s life can be affected. In this webinar, we will discuss some research on fraud and victimization, and provide some background information on trauma. We will also discuss trauma-informed responses to older victims of fraud and exploitation, and some best practices that should be used when responding to all victims of financial crime.
