Ohio Domestic Violence Network: Building Anti-Racism Advocacy

Friday, February 26, 2021
9:00 am12:00 pm

The domestic violence movement has begun deeper conversations about racism in the lives of survivors who are people of color following the increase in awareness of police brutality and the recent killings of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and George Floyd. Join us as we explore the long overdue and difficult conversation about our movement’s substantial relationships with law enforcement, criminal courts and the systems that continue to oppress people of color.

Domestic violence advocates, especially legal advocates, have a unique role to play as we move forward to make the changes needed so that all survivors have access to more options for safety. In this engaging panel discussion, you will learn to address the harsh reality that survivors of color remain burdened with additional barriers to safety, imposed by racism. We will build on these conversations and teach ways to develop strategies for systems advocacy that you can use in your own community. The training will help prepare you for the challenging, courageous, and effective conversations that create social change.
